Comets Streak Past Sky

(Sports Network) - Tina Thompson led five players in double- figures with 16 points as Houston downed Chicago, 79-65.

Roneeka Hodges had 15 points and Matee Ajavon added 13 off the bench for the Comets, who have won five consecutive games. Michelle Snow recorded a game- high 12 rebounds.

Candice Dupree picked up a game-best 28 points for the Sky, who have dropped three of four. Jia Perkins had 15 points, seven boards and dished out five assists.

Houston locked up the game with strong opening and closing quarters, outscoring Chicago 19-10 in the first and 23-16 in the fourth.

Candace Parker had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Sparks over the Monarchs, 78-63, in the first night of action after the United States women's basketball team captured a gold medal in the Beijing Olympics.
