Weiner To Resign

Democrats will get to breathe a sigh of relief today, as Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) is finally ready to give up his seat in the U.S. House, in the wake of his internet sexting scandal with a variety of women.

Weiner reportedly told Democratic leaders last night of his decision and will announce his decision at a news conference this afternoon in New York.

Even with Weiner at an undisclosed location this week for some type of rehab, the Weiner story again dominated the news on Capitol Hill, frustrating Democrats who have seen it override their political plans on a number of fronts.

"This is just a distraction that was unnecessary," said Speaker John Boehner this morning at a news conference.

"It's just been a distraction," the Speaker said. "The American people have been asking 'Where are the jobs?'"

It was an admission that the Weiner schedule had also been obscuring the GOP agenda as well.

Meanwhile, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi was in no mood to make any news about Weiner's announcement, telling reporters at a news conference that "If you're here to ask a question about Anthony Weiner, I won't be answering any."

Reporters went ahead and pestered her; Pelosi stuck to her vow and made no real comment about her soon-to-be former colleague.
