A storm system that has been affecting the borderland since Tuesday brought us some much needed rain. The storm system itself slowly dropped into the southwest from Nevada, moving south into Eastern California and Western Arizona. At the same time and just as important Gulf of Mexico moisture moved into the borderland from the East. That moisture would become the fuel for showers and thunderstorms through the middle of the week.

Before this system we were about .60 inches behind on our rainfall for the year. But as this system moved in we received .03 inches of rainfall on Tuesday, on Wednesday we received .35 inches of rainfall with an additional .07 inches Thursday at the El Paso International Airport. In addition to the rainfall, when the system came in it Tuesday it brought with it some severe, weather including hail which covered the ground north of Hatch, New Mexico. The storm system with its extensive cloud cover also gave us a record cool high temperature of 64 degrees on Thursday! That broke the old record which was 70 degrees, set on May 10^th back in 1930.

As we head into your Friday the storm system will finally push out of the area as it head toward Central Texas. This will leave us with only a slight chance for showers or thunderstorms today. Looking ahead we may see a return of shower and thunderstorm chances for the borderland by the weekend.
