Much needed rain has brought our yearly total up to average.

After an extremely dry June receiving only a trace of rainfall on the 15th, 16th, and the 30th, July was about to get wetter here in the borderland. In fact it would be during the month of July that we would exceed our expected rainfall for the first 7 months of the year. This as rounds of showers and thunderstorms would bring much needed rainfall to the borderland.

The first round of storms to affect the borderland would be the 3rd through the 6th of July. During that period we recorded rainfall at the El Paso International Airport, with the greatest total being .47 inches on the 6th. Our next round of storms would come the 9th through the 11th, with the highest recorded total that time being .87 inches on the 11th. With those two rounds of rain and storms so close together the ground in many areas became saturated, and as a result some areas began to see some flooding. We did see more shower and thunderstorm activity on the 16th and 17th, but saw less flooding as the soil had some time to dry out.

So far for the month we have seen 2.28 inches of rain, that puts us at 3.66 inches for the year which is right about where we should be. And with elevated rain chances expected this week we will once again surpass our average so far for the year. However with our increased chances for showers and storms we may also see an increased chance for isolated flooding this week as well.
