A storm system moving west from southern Arizona into southern New Mexico brought rain showers, and snow showers as well as wind to the region for our Monday. As the system moved closer the winds increased, with gusts to around 25 miles per hour already by 9am. Around this time the storm system was also pulling rain showers into the area from the west, as the system had tapped into some Gulf of California moisture. But as the system moved further east, away from the moisture source the showers began to rain themselves out. The Gila Mountains saw some of the best moisture from this storm system, with only a few light showers further south and east in Las Cruces and El Paso.
The other big story with this storm system was the wind. As the storm system moved further east during the day our winds really began to crank up. In Las Cruces our Bravo Chevrolet Cadillac weathernet site saw a wind gust of 45 mph, with the Las Cruces Airport also seeing a gust of 45 miles per hour. In the El Paso area the winds were even stronger. Our Dr. Scott A Martin weathernet site saw a wind gust of 55 mph, with the El Paso International Airport seeing s gust of 48 mph. And as we head through winter and spring these storm systems producing more wind than rain unfortunately become more common.
I grew up in Cerritos, California, a suburb of Los Angeles and have had a love for nature since I was very young.
