Record Setting Temperatures This Week!

By Brad Montgomery

It has been quite hot as we set three record highs in a weeks’ time! The heat started at the beginning of the week, with highs going from the lower 90s Saturday to the mid 90s Sunday. The first record to be set was a high of 93 degrees on Monday the 23rd. But the hot temperatures continued as we saw a high of 96 degrees for our Tuesday, and although hot that did not break the record for that date which was 97. The next record was set on Wednesday the 25th with a high of 95 degrees. The final record this week was a high of 95 degrees set on Thursday.

All in all these temperatures were some 14 to 16 degrees above the average for this time of year when temperatures would typically be in the mid 80s. In fact we would not usually see temperatures that hot until late May or early June! The highest average temperature we see here in El Paso is 96 degrees and that doesn’t occur until June, so the heat we have experienced was way above average.

The good news is that after a storm system brought wind gusts around 50 miles per hour and blowing dust moves out of the area, we will see cooler temperatures for our Friday. However we will warm temperatures back up early next week with highs some 8 to 10 degrees above average. But at this point we are not expecting any record highs for the upcoming week.
