Floods Kill at Least Eight in Ecuador

Heavy rains and flooding in southwestern Ecuador left at least eight people dead on Saturday, at the beginning of the winter season. The storm hit the country's largest city of Quayaquil late Saturday evening, flooding streets and stranding drivers. Officials reported the death count included one person who drowned, six who were electrocuted and one child who was missing after being swept away by the tide.
