Rescue efforts were ongoing on Wednesday at a mine in southwestern China, after state media reported that at least 21 miners were killed and another 20 were injured in an accident. All of those injured were reported to be in stable condition. Official state broadcaster CCTV said that 83 miners were in the pit when there was an explosion. Fifty-eight managed to escape, while four were alive but remained trapped. Xinhua news agency said the accident was the result of a coal and gas outburst.
