Cardinals' Wilson Fined

POSTED: 3:08 pm MDT October 10, 2008

(Sports Network) - Arizona Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson was fined $25,000 by the NFL on Friday for his hit on Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards last Sunday that forced the quarterback from the game with a concussion.

The play occurred in the first quarter of last week's contest as Wilson drove Edwards into the ground on the Bills' third play from scrimmage.

The league said Wilson broke a rule that states "a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down and land on top of him with all or most of the defender's weight." The rule says defensive players should "strive to wrap up or cradle the passer with the defensive player's arms."

Wilson said that he will appeal the fine, but doubts the decision will be reversed.

"We'll see where it goes, but it's kind of hard to appeal something when you have 15 personal fouls in your career, numerous fines for hits like that. It's kind of reputation," said Wilson. "And also the thing that happened the week before (with Anquan Boldin's injury)."

On the season, Wilson's eighth in the NFL, he has 13 tackles and one interception.
