Fort Bliss new commanding general steps in; Discusses future goals for Ft. Bliss

By: Chrisdyann Uribe
EL PASO, Texas – A new man has taken over Fort Bliss as commanding general.
Maj. Gen. Stephen Twitty has returned to Fort Bliss to succeed Maj. Gen. Sean MacFarland.
Twitty said he has specific goals for the post and envisions great things.
"Toughen realistic training to get our soldiers out the door when they call," Twitty said.
He plans on shaping all soldiers, new and experienced.
"We have a lot of young leaders in this division. We want to focus hard on developing not only our current leaders but our future leaders," Twitty said.
His third plan for the post in to maintain all firearms.
"Maintenance and getting our equipment ready. As an armored division, our equipment is critical to fight this war," Twitty said,
He plans to care for not only families in the Army but across the Borderland.
"Our continued engagement with the community, -- that’s very important to me," Twitty said.
With the recent shooting at Fort Hood in April, which killed three people and injured 16, KFOX14 asked the new general commander how he plans on securing Fort Bliss.
"A shooting can happen anywhere. We must be prepared to respond to a shooting not only in Fort Hood but also on all our installations. I’ll focus and show that we are ready and I will try my best to prevent those shootings," Twitty said.
Twitty served twice at Fort Bliss. The second time was as the deputy commanding general of the 1st Armored Division.
MacFarland was promoted to lieutenant general and will take over command at Fort Hood on Friday.
