Three toddlers seen wandering streets with soiled diapers; father arrested

By: Jesse Martinez
DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. - Three toddlers were seen wandering around Mesilla Park for hours and their father was arrested, officials said.

Around 11 a.m. Wednesday, a resident living in the 4800 block of South Main Street told authorities there was a 2-year-old girl wearing pink pajamas wandering around, officials said.

When a deputy responded, the deputy saw the little girl standing in the middle of the street, officials said.

Residents in the area said they weren't sure where the girl lived, but they also reported seeing two 3-year-old twin boys walking around the neighborhood unsupervised.

The deputy located the two boys who were found wearing only diapers.

Of the three children, neither of them wore shoes or socks and they all have soiled diapers, officials said.

The deputy later made contact with the children's father after questioning neighbors.

Angel Flores appeared to have just woken up and told the deputy that he didn't know his children left the house, officials said.

Flores, 35, was charged with negligent child abuse. He was booked into the county jail with bail set at $10,000.

The children were turned over to the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department.
