Woman finds worm in wrapped raw salmon packageBy: Stacey WelshEL PASO, Texas -- Tara Ruby said she was shocked to see a worm crawling in the wrapped package of raw salmon she had just bought at Sam's Club on Pellicano Dr. Friday."It was a really nice red fish, so it looked really good. You don't really ever look closely at it. You just kind of choose it by the color and take it home," Ruby said. She sent KFOX14 a video she took of the fish, showing a worm, that she said looked to be a few inches long, crawling between the salmon and plastic wrapper."It was disgusting. It was really hard to eat anything after that. It's just not something that you expect to see on your food, especially if it's supposedly fresh," Ruby said.Ruby said she bought the fish at around dinner time Friday. She said she noticed the worm while unloading groceries and said she took it back to the store right after that."We went over to the customer service desk, and the manager took it. He said he was going to take care of it and had them refund my money," Ruby said. However, Ruby said she is concerned because she said there were other packages of Salmon in the same bin."I want them to just make sure that they look through their food before they sell it. It might just be a normal worm but it could be a parasite. We don't know."KFOX14 contacted the Walmart corporation that owns Sam's Club Saturday.A representative for Sam's Club said the company has a food safety team dedicated to solving issues like this, and the company is working to track down where this salmon came from.Sams Club is committed to providing fresh, quality products that exceed our members expectations. We regret our member had this experience. We are working closely with our supplier to try to determine how this happened and will be reaching out to Ms. Ruby to let her know how seriously we take matters like this. While we have received no similar complaints, we have pulled the remaining product. Members who may have recently purchased this product are welcome to return it for a full refund," Sam's Club spokesperson Dianna Gee said.Representatives for Sam's Club also told KFOX14 the company takes customer safety very seriously and said the company works with food suppliers to resolve issues like this. After this incident, Ruby said she wants to encourage friends and family to double check any raw meat they buy."You have to kind of take your own responsibility for what you buy and what you cook," Ruby said.
