El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies enforcing passing emergency vehicle laws

EL PASO, Texas - The El Paso County Sheriff's Office stated its deputies will be enforcing a law that requires drivers to move over or slow down when approaching an emergency vehicle, tow truck and vehicles that belong to the Texas Department Transportation.

It's against the law to pass an emergency vehicle(s) when they are stopped on the side of the roadway with lights activated. The law states that if you approach an emergency vehicle the driver must move over or slow down.

If moving over is not possible, the driver is expected to slow down 20 mph under the posted speed limit.

Drivers caught in violation of this law, could face up to a $500 fine.
