Victims in Las Cruces murder-suicide had 3 children together

By: Jamel Valencia and Jesse Martinez
LAS CRUCES Police detectives identified the man and woman killed in an apparent murder-suicide.

The 30-year-old pregnant woman who was the victim of the alleged murder-suicide was identified as Bridgette Dominguez of Las Cruces.

Investigators believe Dominguezs estranged boyfriend, 32-year-old Jesus Manuel Rojas, shot Dominguez twice with a 9 mm handgun and then turned the weapon on himself.

Rojas was pronounced dead at the Sexton Apartments, at 1850 Sexton St., from what appears to be a single gunshot wound to his head, according to police.

Around 12:20 p.m., police were called out to the apartment complex, where they found Rojas and Dominguez with gunshot wounds.

Police said Dominguez was treated at the scene and taken to Mountain View Regional Medical Center. Dominguez and her unborn child died at the hospital, police said.

Dominguez and Rojas together had three children ages 11, 7 and 20-months. Dominguez and the three children lived at the Sexton Apartments while Rojas is believed to have resided off Embarcadero Road, north of Las Cruces, until about a month ago when he moved in with Dominguez.

Reports from the Las Cruces Police Department and Dona Ana County Sheriffs Office show multiple incidents of domestic disturbances over the past few years between Dominguez and Rojas. Both had been arrested over the years on battery charges against each other.

Investigators said have reason to believe that Dominguez and Rojas were involved in a heated argument Sunday evening and again on Monday, prior to the shooting.

Police discovered that their 20-month-old son was in the apartment at the time of the shooting but was not injured.

An investigation is ongoing.
