El Paso County Sheriff's Office to ban smoking for its employeesBy: Jesse MartinezEL PASO, Texas -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is encouraging all employees, volunteers and interns to stop smoking by prohibiting the use of tobacco, officials said. Officials said the office will only hire candidates to the office who sign an agreement to not use tobacco produces while on or off duty. Current employees who were hired before April 8 are allowed to use tobacco products if they leave the grounds and are not near a Sheriff's Office facility including county buildings, facility parking lots and county-owned vehicles. The office will supply employees with smoking cessation programs to help them kick the habit, officials said. Officials said signs will be posted at the entrances of all of the Sheriff's Office facilities to notify the public that the use of tobacco products is prohibited.
