LCPD: Pedestrian dies after being hit by car

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- A 79-year-old pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Foothills Road Thursday evening has died as a result of his injuries.

Las Cruces Police were called to the crash on Foothills Road, just east of Telshor Boulevard, shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday, April 3. Traffic investigators learned that the 79-year-old man had walked from Hotel Encanto, at 705 S. Telshor, across Foothills Road to a nearby restaurant.

On his return to the hotel, he was attempting to walk across Foothills when it appears he fell to the ground in the outside lane of westbound traffic. That's where he was struck by a Chevrolet HHR. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk.

He was transported to Mountain View Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The 24-year-old woman driving the HHR was not injured.

Police are still investigating the crash and no charges have been filed at this time.
