Man steals case of beer, threatens to kill clerk, deputies say

By: Jesse Martinez
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Authorities are the lookout for a man who took a case of beer from a convenience store and threatened to kill an employee if police were called.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. Monday on the 5100 block of Dona Ana Road.

A representative for the Dona Ana County Sheriffs Office said a Hispanic man in his late 20s or early 30s grabbed a 12-pack of beer and approached the counter.

At that point, he allegedly told the clerk that he was taking the beer. He also said that if the employee called the police, he would come back to kill him and "It wouldnt be pretty," the deputy said.

Deputies say the man had a medium complexion, facial stubble and was between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was about 220 pounds and arrived at the store in a baby-blue mid-'90s Lincoln sedan with a chrome strip along the bottom.

It is believed that another heavy-set man was driving the sedan.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or the Dona Ana County Sheriffs Office at 575-525-8810.
