Former Socorro councilman involved in pedestrian crash

By: Jamel Valencia
SOCORRO, Texas - Former Councilman Guillermo Madrid Jr. was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Socorro.

Madrid was crossing the intersection of Bauman and Middle Drain around 7:45 a.m.

A vehicle northbound on Bauman struck Madrid, who was in the roadway, according to Socorro police Sgt. Salinas.

Police officials say Madrid was taken to Del Sol Hospital for minor head injuries.

The driver claims she didnt see Madrid because the sunlight blinded her.

She was cited for failure to yield the right of way of a pedestrian, Salinas said.
