12-year-old Las Cruces Girl brings Christian movie to local theatre

When it comes to movies, most kids want to see a film like "Frozen" or "Finding Nemo."
But there is one Las Cruces 12-year-old girl who desired to see something a little different come to theaters in her neighborhood.
She wanted to see a Christian film called "God's Not Dead".
She set out to do just that - and made it happen.
"The premise of the movie is this young man defending his faith," Jane Mouttet said after seeing the movie Friday.

The film came out at end of March, but not in Las Cruces.

That made Makaela Velarde, 12, unhappy to hear.
"I saw it, it looked very good, and they're aren't very many Christian movies out," Velarde said.
So Makaela set out to fix that.
She went to Allen Theatres to find out how she could bring the movie there.
They referred her to the producers of the movie: Pure Flix.
"They said we had to sell 500 tickets to get it here," Velarde said.
With the help of her school, friends and church, there was no stopping her.
"It really was a small group, a group of our students that kind of got the idea going," Dr. John Foreman, superintendent of Mesilla Valley Christian Schools said.
Just a short time later - the film is now being shown on a Las Cruces big screen.
"We sold it within a couple days," Velarde said.
