Update: Pedestrian killed in Dona Ana County deputy involved accident

DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. -- New Mexico State Police have identified the pedestrian killed after being hit by the unit of an on-duty Doa Ana County Sheriff's deputy.

A spokesperson with the New Mexico State Police Dept. said Natividad Nuez, 44, from Mesquite, N.M. died from her injuries at Memorial Medical Center.

As KFOX14 reported, Kelly Jameson, a spokesperson for the sheriffs office confirmed that a deputy was involved in the incident which happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The NMSP spokesperson said the deputy's vehicle hit a pedestrian while he was responding to a call near the intersection of Mesquite and Sequoia drives, which is about a block away from the Mesquite Elementary School.

Las Cruces police was also called out to help with the investigation, said NMSPD officials.

The area of Mesquite and Sequoia drives were blocked off until after 2:00 a.m. as investigators reconstructed the scene.
