Mother, son team up using stolen credit cards

LAS CRUCES, N.M.- A mother and son were caught after employees at Kohls reported to police that the two were trying to buy items with stolen credit cards, according to Las Cruces police.

On Friday, Santana Jaramillo and his mother, Lisa Jaramillo, tried using the stolen credit cards to purchase jewelry, but failed when a Kohls employee became suspicious because the cards did not match the names of the Jaramillos.

Lisa and Santana left the store and were stopped during a traffic stop, said police.

When the police officer began conducting an investigation, 22-year-old Santana took off running.

According to the police officer, Santana was found hiding behind a restaurant. After Santana was taken into custody, the officer returned to the site of the traffic stop and found that Lisa had fled.

A warrant has been issued for Lisa Jaramillo. She faces one count of forgery and unlawful withdrawal from the account of another.

An investigation revealed Santana and Lisa Jaramillo also tried using checks that were stolen from the same victim for purchases at Walgreens.

Santana was charged three counts of conspiracy to commit forgery, one count each of possession of stolen or lost credit cards, and one count of resisting or evading an officer.
