By: Jamel Valencia
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A 67-year-old man who lost consciousness while driving and crashed as a result was pronounced dead by Las Cruces police.

The man is believed to be from central Texas.

He died shortly after being taken to Memorial Medical Center.

Investigators gather from their preliminary information that he suffered from some type of medical condition which caused him to lose consciousness as his Ford F-250 traveled north on El Paseo Road.

They said his pickup crossed Idaho Avenue and veered into oncoming traffic. The truck side-swiped a southbound Chevrolet Silverado, jumped a curb and came to rest in the parking lot of the Walgreens store at 1256 El Paseo Road.

The 38-year-old driver of the southbound Chevy Silverado and her two passengers were not injured.

The crash caused road closures on southbound lanes on El Paseo early Monday morning.
