El Paso man caught smuggling meth at port of entry

By: Jamel Valencia
EL PASO, Texas - About $200,000 worth of methamphetamine was seized at an El Paso port of entry this week.

On Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Paso Del Norte crossing were screening vehicles in line, when a drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to a pickup truck, said a CBP spokesman Roger Maier.

Several bundles attached to the undercarriage area of the Chevrolet S-10 pickup were spotted during an examination, said Maier.

Inside the bundles was methamphetamine, weighing 6.1 pounds.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as 30-year-old Daniel Anaya of El Paso.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security are investigating the smuggling attempt.

Maier says Anaya faces charges.
