Reward offered for info on Las Cruces hotel robbery, shooting

By: Jesse Martinez
LAS CRUCES, N.M. A reward is being offered for information on the identity of two men who robbed and shot a hotel clerk, police said.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Feb. 1 when two men entered the Econo Lodge Hotel at 2585 S. Valley Drive.

When they confronted the 24-year-old clerk, police said, one man jumped over the count and threatened him while the second main pointed a gun at the employee.

The men took the clerk to a back office and shot him in the leg, police said.

The men took an undisclosed amount of money from the hotel and left on foot, police said. They were last seen running toward the west side of a nearby Motel 6 on La Posada Lane.

The hotel employee was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso for treatment.

The armed robber is described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a white shirt, dark gray zipper-front hooded jacket and blue jeans.

The other man was around the same age and height with an average build. He was wearing a light gray zipper-front hooded jacket with dark pants and a mask that partially concealed his face.

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering an additional $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the two men.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
