LCPD: Sexual Assault suspect used app to brag about raping family member

By: Joshua Zuber
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Jason Reyes is 33, Hispanic, from Las Cruces, 5 feet 8 inches tall and said to weigh 300 pounds.

Las Cruces police arrested him this past Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a young boy.

Police said it was a family member who is now a teenager for more than four years.

LCPD said they caught him thanks to a tip about a mobile app, Air-G.

Someone was bragging about being intimate, sexually intimate, with a juvenile, said Dan Trujillo, a spokesperson for the police department. People who want to do wrong are using technology. Law enforcement is also using technology.

Outlined in the arrest affidavit are several accusations that are too graphic to publish.

In summary, police accuse Reyes of having sex, and engaging in other sexual acts, with a young family member starting around the age of 10.

KFOX 14 talked to a sexual assault expert who says she's not surprised the abuse allegedly went on for years.

The perpetrator gains the victim's trust and works with them so that it is a gradual process of sexually violating this child to a point where they trust what is happening and they don't know that it's not right, Donna Richmond said.

Richmond said family or friends are essential to help stop the abuse.

If you know it is happening, I would hope that you would want it to end, and therefore by reporting it and bringing it to proper authorities that we would be able to stop this from happening, Richmond said.
