Downtown Artist and Farmers Market boosts local economy

By: Jamel Valencia
EL PASO, Texas - Local businesses that have set up shop at the Downtown Artist and Farmers Market have brought millions into the El Paso economy.

The market has an economic impact of over $2.4 million annually, said Rebecca Munoz, Artist Market coordinator.

The money-making market opened in October 2011 as an artist market, but in 2013, event organizers added the; farm-produce component.

Since the launch of the farmers market, attendance and sales have increased dramatically, said Munoz.

Munoz says the growth indicates a demand for locally grown produce, baked goods and arts and crafts.

The market happens every Saturday in the Union Plaza District from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
