Update: Athena the cat rescued after being stuck on electric pole for days

By: Joshua Zuber, Jesse Martinez and Jamel Valencia
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Athena the cat, who was stuck on top of an electrical pole for three days was rescued.

Athenas owner, Bethany Eason, 16, was relieved to be reunited with her beloved pet.

I guess she got chased by coyotes and ended up at the top and she was too afraid to crawl down and we couldn't do anything to help her, Eason said.

After being stranded atop a 60-foot pole for days and enduring gusting winds, a rainstorm and direct sun, Athena is now back inside her home and Eason said she wants to cuddle with Athena and nurse her back to health.

Dona Ana County Animal Control officers along with a veterinarian and two El Paso Electric linemen helped rescue Athena.

Viewers of KFOX14 had reached out through Facebook in hopes of getting help for the cat.

Barbra Valencia wrote, This cat has been stuck on this pole since Friday. Can anyone help. EP electric, animal control and the fire dept. all say they can't help.

The electric pole was in the area of the 5000 block of Eason Lane in Las Cruces, N.M.
