Police officer runs off bicyclist in downtown El Paso

EL PASO, Texas - An off duty police officer allegedly drove through a group of bicyclists in downtown El Paso Friday night.

According to a post on Velo Pasos Facebook page, an off duty officer rode his motorcycle through the crowd of people partaking in the Critical Mass ride by Campbell Street around 8 p.m. and nearly hit several riders. 

Other officers responded to the scene. Several bicyclists were apprehended by police. According to police the bicyclist were illegally blocking the road, that is what lead the officer to take action. According to the El Paso Police Department, the officer involved was Officer Jorge Gonzalez and he was off duty at the time.

Police say internal affairs are handling the case and no one was arrested. El Paso police hope to obtain more details regarding the case on Monday.
