Mothers charged with child abuse after leaving kids home alone

By: Jamel Valencia
DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. - Sheriffs investigators say two women left their 12 and 4-year-old children home alone, and returned to find their home burglarized and children missing.

Mayra Golden, 22, and Manuela Rodriguez, 29, of Dona Ana County, are facing child abuse charges.

Both women told investigators they left the children asleep in the home to go shower at a neighbor's house at 2 a.m., said a Dona Ana County Sheriffs Office spokeswoman.

When Golden and Rodriguez returned home four hours later, they realized their home in the 6000 block of Aerosmith had been burglarized.

The woman told investigators the children were missing.

Investigators said they found the two children with another woman who been looking for Golden at the home to collect a debt she claimed Golden owed her.

The woman told investigators she did not want to leave the children alone so she took them with her.

The woman was not identified but her daughter, Danielle Paez, 22, who was with her, is facing a charge of breaking and entering, deputies said.

The children are under the care of family members.

Golden and Rodriguez were taken to the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where each one is being held on a $10,000 secured bond.
