Man involved in deadly racing crash arrested

By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas Police said they have arrested a 19-year-old man who they said raced against two teens, one of whom died.

Police said Jaccob Pryor was wanted on one count each of racing on a highway causing death and racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury after a deadly traffic accident that happened late January.

As KFOX14 previously reported, on Jan. 23, Alonzo Perez and Irvin Barba, both 16, were involved in a serious accident on the 1300 block of Resler Drive.

Perez died from his injuries and Barba was hospitalized for his serious injuries.

Investigators previously told KFOX14 that the two Franklin High School students had their vehicle slammed into a traffic signal pole, and the impact caused the pole to fall as their vehicle split in half.

Police had said the car they were racing briefly stopped after the crash but left before police arrived.

Police believe Pryor, 19, was the driver of the other vehicle and he was arrested late Wednesday on the 5500 block of Oakbriar Circle in west El Paso.

He was booked into the county jail with bail totaling $20,000.
