Inmate stabbed to death in southern New Mexico correctional facility

Dona Ana County, N.M.

An inmate was stabbed and killed at the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility Friday, according to the New Mexico Corrections Department and the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau.

The inmates name was Javier Molina.

Immediate investigation details suggest Molina was stabbed with a metal shank, NMSP said.

The NMCD said Molina may have been attacked by fellow gang members, resulting in his death a little after 6 p.m.

NMCD said it screens inmates to make sure they are not housed with known enemies and as far as they know that was the case.

Both NMCD and NMSP are working on this ongoing investigation.
