EL PASO, Texas -- In less than two months, the El Paso Chihuahuas will take the field for their first home game at Southwest University Park.

The name of the downtown ballpark was revealed Wednesday afternoon at a special news conference at the stadium.

We believe that the El Paso Chihuahuas and the Chihuahuas family and Southwest University both believe in the same thing -- that's giving back to the community and building a better community, and together, we believe we can do that, said Yolanda Arriola, president of Southwest University.

Alan Ledford, President of MountainStar Sports Group said there was a lot of interest from various companies and businesses interested in purchasing the naming rights to the stadium.

He said when they began the search for a partner they wanted it to be a local business or a homegrown company with shared values.

Arriola said she could not disclose how much Southwest University is paying for the naming rights. The contract is a 20 year agreement which extends through 2033.

"Southwest University and the Arriola family are committed members of this community and their enthusiasm for El Paso and this Ballpark makes them an ideal partner," said Brad Taylor, General Manager for the El Paso Chihuahuas.

The first game at the Southwest University Park is scheduled for April 28 as the Chihuahuas begin their four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies.

A second set of four home games will be played against the Sacramento River Cats from May 2-5.

The teams first game of the season will be played at Tucson, Ariz., April 11 against the Reno Aces.
