Officers find $1.5 million worth of marijuana in weekend seizures at border crossings

By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas A little less than one ton of marijuana was seized in a dozen seizures this weekend at El Paso ports of entry, officials said.

About 1,890 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $1.5 million was caught by U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers.

CBP officers remain vigilant using all their resources to identity and stop illegal activity at area ports of entry, said Hector Mancha, CBP El Paso port director. The result was that almost one ton of marijuana did not make it to its intended destination.

The largest seizure happened Friday evening at the Ysleta commercial cargo facility. An X-ray exam led officers to further inspect the cab of a cargo truck. Inside, officers found four sealed wooden boxes filled with 352 bundles of marijuana, officials said.

No arrests were made in that seizure and officials are continuing their investigation.
