By: Elena Arteaga, U.S. Customs and Border Protection

EL PASO, Texas U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found thousands of dollars worth of cocaine during a drug bust at the Bridge of the Americas.

Authorities with C.B.P. said the seizure was made just after 9:00 A.M., after C.B.P. drug sniffing dog Shake alerted officers to the front of a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado waiting to cross into the United States.

Officers escorted the pickup truck to secondary exam area, where they noticed discrepancies in the appearance of the truck. A scan of the truck with the Z-Portal x-ray system found an anomaly in the appearance of the radiator. After further examination, officers found a hidden compartment built into the part. Inside were five cocaine-filled bundles.

The bundles weighed about 14.65 pounds, with an estimated street value of $468,800.

The driver, identified as Alberto Flores Dominguez, 57, of El Paso, was arrested. Dominguez was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations agents. He now faces charges in connection to the failed smuggling attempt.
