By: Jesse Martinez
LAS CRUCES, N.M. A man was arrested by New Mexico State Police after an armed robbery at a Las Cruces Walmart, police said.
Brandon Armando Herrera-Lozoya walked out of the Walmart on 571 Walton Blvd. at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday without paying for speakers and an air compressor, police said.
He was approached by a loss prevention officer in the parking lot, and as the employee was calling 911, Herrera-Lozoya threatened the employee with a gun, stole his cellphone and left the scene, police said.
Herrera-Lozoya left in a white mini van police discovered belonged to a woman in Anthony, N.M., whom Herrera-Lozoya was dating, police said.
Police teamed up with New Mexico State Police and found the suspect driving the minivan later than evening, police said.
He was charged with armed robbery, tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance.
Police believe the weapon Herrera-Lozoya used was an airsoft rifle, which resembles an assault rifle, but they said they have not been able to locate it.
Herrera-Lozoya was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Centery with bail set at $25,000.
