Armed robber robbed same convenience store again, police say

By: Jesse Martinez
LAS CRUCES, N.M. A man who robbed a Las Cruces convenience store a few months ago was again arrested for robbing the same store, police said.

Lucio Esteban Vargas was arrested Nov. 23 about an hour after he used a gun to take cash from the Pic Quick store at 127 E. Amador Ave.

Around 8 a.m. Thursday, Vargas walked in to the same store, approached the assistant manager and displayed a handgun, police said.

Vargas, 22, took cash from the register and fled on foot, police said.

The employee told police he saw Vargas standing in line and recognized him as the man who tried to rob the store twice within the past two days, police said.

Vargas was found 30 minutes later by police as he was walking along a canal near downtown. The weapon Vargas used in the holdup was found on the roof of a building near the convenience store.

Vargas was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center on the armed robbery charge. His bail was set at $25,000.
