Ellery Schemmp to discuss his impact in public schools across the nation

EL PASO, Texas -  Edward Ellery Schempp will be a guest speaker today at the University of Texas at El Paso. Schempp is famous for being the primary student involved in the landmark 1963 United States Supreme Court case of Abington School District v. Schempp in 1963.

The case declared that mandatory Bible reading in public schools was unconstitutional and ended mandatory Bible reading in public schools.

The event "Evening of Civil Discourse, sponsored by the El Paso Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, will be held at the UTEP Unioon Cinema, 500 W. University Ave., at 2 p.m.

The event is free and there will also be free parking available on campus. For more information call 915-525-8545.
