KFOX, KDBC owner buys building for TV stations

Sinclair Broadcast Group purchased office space for the two stations it acquired in separate transactions in 2013. The new space at 200 South Alto Mesa, which also housed a theatre at one point, will undergo significant renovations, including building news sets for KFOX and KDBC, satellite farms and sales and administration facilities to accommodate two stations.

After renovations are complete, KFOX is scheduled to vacate 12,000 square feet at 6004 North Mesa Street.

We are very excited about the merger, which we believe gives us an increased opportunity, and responsibility to serve our community, said Kevin Hayes, general manager of KFOX. To meet those needs, we plan on expanding the KDBC news team and leveraging the strength of KFOX to build two news teams in order to provide more comprehensive and superior news products.

CBRE helped SBG investigate all viable options for its square footage and clear height needs, including expansions in the current offices and build-to-suits, although the primary focus was on purchasing a building, said Chad McClesky with CBRE. Because the selected site was once a movie theatre, it has ample height, which makes it a great fit for SBG.
