El Paso tip leads to arrest of wanted sex offender in New York
By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas A local Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of a 29-year-old New York woman wanted in El Paso for failing to register as a sex offender, police said.
Ramonda Cadet was convicted in Queens County, N.Y., in June 2008 for criminal sexual act and sentenced to conditional discharged for three years. Cadet was also required to register annually as a sex offender for life, federal officials said.
In November 2012 the El Paso Police Department's Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit, along with the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, did a compliance check on Cadet and discovered that she was no longer living at her listed residence, federal officials said.
El Paso officials determined in April 2013 that Cadet fled the El Paso area to live in New York, officials said.
On Jan. 6 the LSFTF received a tip from El Paso Crime Stoppers that she was living in Jamaica Queens, N.Y.
Local authorities worked with officials in New York to apprehend Caden and on Monday she was arrested without incident at her home. She was booked into the Queens Central Booking where she is awaiting extradition to El Paso.
