Major piece of downtown ballpark installed

EL PASO, Texas -- As opening day nears, a huge piece of the downtown ballpark was set into place.
Wednesday, construction crews heaved and set a 13-ton steel bridge connecting two major structures of the stadium.
"Fans can get a true 360 degree experience of this beautiful downtown ballpark. What's kind of significant about this is not only does it connect these areas, but this kind of completes what will allow people to truly walk all the way around this ballpark," said Brad Taylor, general manager of the Chihuahuas.
The bridge connects two of the ballpark's major structures.
"These are very unique buildings for minor league baseball and AAA ballparks but we've got two beautiful hospitality buildings here in right field, right center field," Taylor said.
Those buildings will offer extra seating, an area that can be reserved for parties and house a restaurant.
"You could be at the restaurant and watching the game, eating dinner and watching the game at the same time. So I think that would be nice," said Frank Carrillo, resident.
Taylor said crews are working seven days a week, sometimes into the early-morning hours, to get the stadium done.
With just three months left until opening day, there's some lingering doubt about whether the job will be done on time.
"It still looks like they got a lot to go but I hope they get it done," Carrillo said.
"It's going to be a tight timeline. I think there's a lot of things in play but we'll be playing in April," Taylor said.
The first Chihuahuas game at the still unnamed downtown ballpark is set for April 14.
