CBP officers seize $350,000 worth of cocaine at border crossing

By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers kept about $350,000 worth of cocaine from entering El Paso during a seizure on Wednesday at the Bridge of the Americas.

The drugs were found stashed inside the engine manifold of a 1995 Ford F-150, and they weighed a total of 10.95 pounds, officials said.

Officers were tipped off on the drugs after Shake, the drug-sniffing dog, alerted officers to the vehicle. After scanning the vehicle, officers saw several anomalies in the truck, officials said.

Seven cocaine-filled bundles were removed from the vehicle, and the 33-year-old driver, Omar Eduardo Robles Romero of Chihuahua City was turned over to federal agents.

Smugglers spent considerable time and effort to conceal this cocaine load, said Hector Mancha, CBP El Paso port director. This seizure proves again that smugglers will use any available space in a vehicle to hide their contraband.
