Three arrested in vehicle burglary

By: Jesse Martinez
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Las Cruces police arrested three men suspected of breaking into and burglarizing a vehicle early Thursday morning.

Isias Hurtado, 20, and 18-year-olds Matthew Licon and Juan Morina Jr. are charged with one count each of burglary of a vehicle.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, Las Cruces police were dispatched to a report of an auto burglary in the area of 2400 Acoma Street. Officers learned that the vehicle's owner was alerted to the burglary by hearing his dogs barking.

The victim went outside and confronted three young men, who ran away. Las Cruces police officers quickly located Licon walking in the area and found Hurtado and Morin driving by in a Honda Accord. All three suspects were in possession of property stolen from the vehicle, police said.

Police learned that the victim's vehicle was unlocked at the time the crime was committed.

Hurtado, Licon and Morina were booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000 each.
