Las Cruces police plan sobriety checkpoints in February
By: Jesse Martinez
LAS CRUCES, N.M. The Las Cruces Police Department will conduct several sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and seat belt checks throughout February, officials said.
Police anticipate conducting at least two sobriety checkpoints, three saturation patrols and two Operation Buckle Down seat belt checks.
Officials said these patrols are intended to reduce the number of drunken drivers and to make sure that safety belts and child safety seats are being utilized properly.
Police encourage citizens who plan on consuming alcoholic beverages to use a designated driver.
Safe rides are also available between 5:30 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays through Project Home.
With Project Home, Dona Ana County residents will be able to receive a $5 taxi ride home for one or two people anywhere in the county. For up to four occupants, the fee is $10.
For the Project Home taxi service, call 575-524-TAXI.
