New attractions coming to I-10 near Airway Blvd
By: Chrisdyann Uribe
EL PASO, Texas - Construction on Interstate 10 has started near Airway Boulevard as part of a beautification project in El Paso.
The attractions will include new landscaping, lighting improvements, pedestrian amenities and wind turbines.
But what makes this project special is not only is it an aesthetics project, it will also create energy to be put back into El Paso.
Were actually generating power off of this system so its kind of a neat little attraction.
The wind turbines, when they turn they generate power, so you can do a couple of things with that. You can either store and power your own lights with it or you can send it back to your own grid, said Raymond Telles, executive director of Camino Real Regional Authority Mobility.
Airway Boulevard was chosen because of the many tourists that cross through there when leaving the airport.
One of the reasons why we selected this interchange for aesthetic improvements is that its one of the first views that visitors get in El Paso, Telles said.
It is a $7 million project that will be completed in October.
The project will cause some lane closures in the area and an occasional closure of the turnabout from west to east El Paso.
