Las Cruces man allegedly runs over ex-girlfriend
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A man suspected of running over his ex-girlfriend with his pickup late Sunday evening was arrested.
Las Cruces police were dispatched to Sunday to a report of a domestic altercation between Harry Donald Huband and his ex-girlfriend.
Detectives figured out Huband and his ex were at a friend's home when they began to argue. They left the home with Huband driving his Dodge Dakota and continued to argue, according to police.
When police interviewed the victim, they said she attempted to get out of the pickup several times when it came to a stop, but each time Huband grabbed her hair and refused to allow her to exit. When the pickup came to a stop on Mesa Street, Huband again tried to prevent her from leaving the vehicle but she fell to the ground.
Huband accelerated and drove the pickup over the woman. The woman was able to stand up and tried running to a nearby home, but Huband dragged her back to the pickup and drove to his home at 5440 Central Road.
Huband's current girlfriend, who was home at the time, then drove the 33-year-old to a nearby store where they waited for an ambulance, police said.
The 33-year-old woman was airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Huband is charged with one count of aggravated battery against a household member causing great bodily harm, a third-degree felony, and a fourth-degree felony count of false imprisonment.
He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $25,000
