UCLA and Virginia Tech will face off at 2013 Sun Bowl
By Crystal Price
EL PASO, Texas - The Hyundai Sun Bowl Committee announced on Sunday that the UCLA Bruins will face off against the Virginia Tech Hokies at the 2013 Sun Bowl.
The teams have never played each other at the Sun Bowl and Virginia Tech hasn't played here since 1947.
"They're so pumped up about coming to El Paso," said John Folmer, Sun Bowl Association Football Committee Chairman. "They have a great fan base and a great team.
The announcement sent crowds cheering loudly on Sunday night at Frankie's Bar and Grill in West El Paso.
"Virginia Tech seldom gets to play against a West Coast team, I look forward to seeing the Hokies play," said Pete Dunavant, a Virginia Tech fan. "It will be a very interesting game. Hopefully Virginia Tech can get its offense on track."
Other football fans in El Paso are rooting for the Bruins instead.
"Overall I'd take UCLA just because the offense they run and they have a pretty traditional team," said Roger Enriquez, a communications major at UTEP.
But no matter which team wins, fans said they're excited to see the two face off.
The 80th anniversary will be really nice, Enriquez said. Well done job here by the El Paso Sun Bowl committee.
The Sun Bowl is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 31 12 p.m. Mountain Time.
Tickets will range from $17 to $62 and will go on sale at a later date.
