New Park for the Northeast

By: Genevieve Curtis

EL PASO, Texas--Construction will soon get started on a new green space in northeast El Paso. City council awarded the construction contract Tuesday.

Barron Park is currently an empty piece of land on Roger Hornsby between U.S. 54 and Sean Haggerty.

The city will use money from the 2012 quality of life bonds to transform the area into a nearly $1.5 million park.

When it's completed, the park will feature playground areas for children ranging from 2 to 12 years of age.

It will also host new athletic fields and a basketball court.

Rep. Carl Robinson said more green spaces is something the northeast community really needs, and neighbors agree.

Construction will begin in January and is scheduled to be completed by July.
