Stores open around-the-clock for last minute shoppers
By Crystal Price
EL PASO, Texas - Some stores in the Borderland will extend their hours for the last few shopping days of the season.
Kohl's stores in El Paso will be open 108 hours straight starting Friday at 6 a.m.
They will not close until Dec. 24 at 6 p.m.
With six less shopping days this holiday season, Kohl's hopes to lure in those last-minute stragglers.
"The culture has changed quite a bit," said Jorge Rico, manager for the Kohl's store on Desert Boulevard. "We've seen competitors do this in the past and we want to make sure that we stay ahead of them or at the trend of whatever they're doing in El Paso."
Kohl's said they've hired the necessary staff to remain open around-the-clock.
"We've hired 30 percent more people," Rico said. "We'll have snacks for them during the night."
Toys R Us will be open 87 hours straight starting Saturday at 6 a.m. until Christmas Eve at 6 p.m.
Macy's will extending their hours from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. starting Friday, Dec. 20.
Target stores will be open from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Friday and then 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. from Saturday to Monday.
On Christmas Eve, Target will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Some shoppers said they would rather be sleeping during the wee hours of the night.
"I won't be out at midnight or 2 or 3 a.m. shopping now," said Jennifer Henry, a shopper at Kohl's.
However, other shoppers are excited to take advantage of the extra hours and the sales.
"It's not so much that I enjoy shopping late, I just like the sales and I don't like to be around crowds," said Rosa Burris, a shopper from West El Paso.
