EL PASO, Texas-- Despite the cold, football fans showed their pride at the tailgate for the 80th anniversary Sun Bowl game between UCLA and Virginia Tech.
Fans stayed warm and built small fires, used blankets and added layers of clothing.
"We feel great. We have a lot of anti-freeze keeping us warm. I'm here with my friend Steve and we're just here to have a lot of fun," said Jesse Vallez.
Many fans traveled from around the nation to watch the game. Locals from around the borderland also came to show their pride.
"We're out here to support the UTEP program and community by attending the Sun Bowl. It's always a great game and good matchups. I've always come out here. So we're out here having a good time this evening," said Mark Lynks.
One man and his son created a tradition of always coming to the Sun Bowl game and tailgating the night before.
"We've been coming for about 10 years. It's been a tradition with my son and me here. We come out here and it's good," said Jesus Martinez.
Many football fans won't let any weather get in the way for their love of the game.
"We'll be here. It doesn't matter what type of weather. We'll be here," said Juan Valdez.
Kickoff for the Sun Bowl is at noon. This will be the 80th anniversary of the Sun Bowl game. The Sun Bowl is the second oldest bowl game in the nation.
