New all-women's football team makes it to El Paso

By: Gina Benitez
EL PASO, Texas - It's the newest baby of a full-contact women's football league.
The El Paso Envy, part of the Sugar N Spice league, is here.
"We're about women's full-contact football and empowering women to give back to their communities through this platform," said Rebecca Garza, commissioner of Sugar N Spice Football League.
Look out, because the El Paso Envy is here.
"I wanted to finish every border and every nook and cranny of Texas before I went out of the state because we are gonna put some divisions in the East Coast and heading out toward the west from here," Garza said.
Tryouts took place Saturday for the all-women's full-contact football team.
"I enjoy football and every time there's something new coming to town, I always like to be the first one there. I think it's great that they brought this to El Paso," said Brianna Rodriquez, of Central El Paso.
"I've actually always loved football, football's like my favorite sport in the world," said Jennifer Nunez.
The team will have another round of tryouts in January.
They're still looking for about 20 girls.
"I saw it on Facebook and I was like, this is like the perfect chance like if they're bringing it over here, a lot of girls like to play so it was my perfect opportunity to play."
Most girls we spoke with, with have played with other area leagues.
But they're excited for this brand-new opportunity.
"Right now, it's really cold. But other than that, I'm not really nervous. I'm athletic, I like sports, so I think it's gonna be really fun," Rodriquez said.
"If all the El Paso people come and support us, it's something new. There's football teams for guys, come support the girls," Nunez said.
